Part 8.1 - ~(으)ㄹ 거예요 — Future Tense or Intention (Will Do...)
Basic Information
The ending ~(으)ㄹ 거예요 is used to express:
- Future tense: what will happen or what someone will do.
- Intention or plan: what someone intends or plans to do.
It is a polite and very common way to talk about future actions or intentions in Korean.
Grammar Rule
To form this:
- If the verb stem ends with a consonant, add 을 거예요.
- If the verb stem ends with a vowel, add ㄹ 거예요.
- For 하다 verbs, just add ㄹ 거예요 to the stem 하.

Important Notes
- ~(으)ㄹ 거예요 is used for both future predictions and personal intentions.
- It is more common in spoken and polite informal Korean.
- For verbs ending in vowels, simply attach ㄹ 거예요. For consonants, attach 을 거예요.
- The particle 거예요 literally means “thing” or “matter,” so this structure literally means “It is the thing that I will (do).”
